Spring Harvest Home and Jabs
That's pretty much been this week really.
I was so sad when Spring Harvest got cancelled, we were signed up to steward, a kind of last hurrah after 9 years of consistently stewarding with the same team (apart from last year when I gave birth 2 days before the week started). It seems unlikely that we'll manage to steward again, at least until the girls are bigger, so I insisted we did it this year inspite of all of T's reservations because we missed out last year. And then it was cancelled.
Spring Harvest Home has been somewhat successful I would say. We've not watched a single daytime seminar but we've done The Big Start in the place of morning prayer and have watched the evening celebrations after the girls are in bed so that's something at least. I may or may not manage to watch any more things before they get taken down from YouTube. I think at least we'll attempt to watch tomorrow morning's final celebration.
What has been lovely though is that the team have had a 5pm meeting on Zoom every day to get to enjoy the community aspect and listen to a 'thought for the day' from the Chief (hilariously on the theme of the movie The Terminal - which we now need to watch). Although we mostly have to have ourselves muted because children are loud so I wouldn't say we've actually had much conversation.
The second theme of this week has been injections. C had her 12 month ones on Tuesday and M had her preschool ones this (Thurs) afternoon. A bit mean to make me do both in one week but at least that's us done now for 2.5 years. C cried for all of about 2 minutes and then was fine, she got a bit of a fever later that day but after a dose of Calpol was good to go. M on the other hand was actually great going in, Bing has an injection episode and we had talked it through so she was prepared, she sat and let the nurse explain everything and was doing well right up until the 1st needle went in. And then she cried and squirmed and so the 2nd needle went into a tense arm I think. She screamed. Like the proper scream of a pissed off/angry/sad/ouch that hurt all in one. She cried right out to the car and then did the sad little shaky breathing all the way home. I was prepared for this however, and yesterday when I went to the supermarket I bought her a Cbeebies magazine as a treat for after her jabs. So once we got home (and removed the little bits of cotton wool taped to her arms which were almost as offensive as the injections themselves) she got to open her magazine and peace resumed. Parenting Win!
Other activities this week have included another Zoom toddler group, a Skype dance class, more painting and board games and a couple more walks. Including today when we went on our biggest lockdown walk yet, we went and checked on/replaced 2 of our geocaches that had been reported as missing and tried out our new litter pickers on the way, picking up an impressive binbag full in not that much time.
